KAPAMILYA SPOTLIGHT | CEDIE LOPEZ-VARGAS
ABS-CBN head of logistics and 30-year awardee Mercedes “Cedie” Lopez-Vargas faces her retirement looking forward to continuing public service outside ABS-CBN, now that she is armed with priceless experience and wisdom acquired from three decades of being a Kapamilya.
Vargas, who is set to retire at the end of the year, had a journey marked by experiences both joyful and at times challenging.-She recounted the company’s humble beginnings—a shabby office in the props area at the back of the main building, scarce resources. “We were putting programming in the air and toiled valiantly amidst adversarial conditions and everything else in between.“
But the Kapamilya force has somehow pulled them all together as they lived and breathed the company's mission, kept the faith and weathered various threats to the country's then fragile state.
“ABS-CBN is an energy force with a life of its own, defined by the collective energies, passion, values and dedicated commitment of its founders, of the people who came before us and of all the workers who have ever worked through its doors and stayed on to give their hearts and souls to work in this place.” she enthusiastically shares.
Vargas has been an executive director of the Lopez Memorial Museum, Library, and Board of Trustee of the Lopez Group Foundation and head of the Lopez Group HR Council espousing the Lopez family values of public service, nationalism, and entrepreneurship.
“I spent 30 years of my life here. In this place that I would always view as my second home. It was here like many of us, was pushed beyond the limits of my comfort zone, motivated to bring pathways were there was none. “ she proudly shares.
ABS-CBN is about excellence and today we celebrate not just the longevity of our tenure or the milestone of the workplace, but the commitment that lies behind the years of service.” she recounts how working towards greater achievements made the network a hallmark for redefining best business practices.
She also recognized her Logistics team for their agility, adaptability, and competence to take on the many rigorous corporate demands and expectations of a giant, 24/7, multiplatform, conglomerate.
Cedie then joyfully capped her speech congratulating her co-awardees and told them to “Live long, prosper, and may the Kapamilya force remain with us all, forever!” as she treads on another path but forever grateful of the are honor and rare privilege of being a Kapamilya.
