BUSINESS SUMMARY

ABS-CBN Music is a Line of Business (LOB) under ABS-CBN Film Productions, Inc. (AFPI). The ABS-CBN Music Group is engaged in the business of music content production, marketing and promotions, including allied businesses such as music publishing and music distribution, talent management and events organization. The Group’s activities revolve around these brands: Music Labels (Star Music, Tarsier Records, Star Pop, DNA Music, and other sub-labels), MOR Entertainment and OneMusicPH.

ABS-CBN Music also provides music servicing and copyright clearance services primarily to other business units of the ABS-CBN group.  Complementary to this business is the management of artists through the Music Management Group and the creation, mounting and line production of events with ABS-CBN Events. The Company also produces commissioned recordings for films and television shows, commercial advertisements, and events for brands and other clients. The Company also controls a valuable music publishing and sound recording catalogue of iconic Filipino hit songs which covers more than half a century. These are licensed to third parties for various usages, including theme songs in TV shows and films, commercial advertisements, and recordings.

RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Music Publishing unit, specifically:
    a. The licensing of musical compositions to internal and external clients for various usages;
    b. The recruitment of composers and acquisition of new compositions, including maintaining good relationships with songwriters and clients;
    c. Representing the company in FILSCAP, MCAP and other industry associations and in industry concerns such as congressional lobbies, etc.;
    d. Working closely with Finance and industry players for rate-setting as well as setting best practices
    e. Assists Finance in establishing an efficient system of royalty administration, collation and payment
    f. Monitoring revenues to ensure that financial targets are met;
    g. Identifies industry trends to anticipate issues and threats to the Company’s business;
    h. Developing the overall business strategy for the Company in the areas of music publishing and licensing;
    i. Engaging partners to assist the Company in achieving its goals in various territories of the world; and
    j. All of the above as applied analogously to the licensing of original sound recordings (OSR) and other music assets owned by AFPI and/or ABS-CBN.
    2. Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Music Services unit, specifically
    a. The pitching of company-owned assets for use in internal productions or by various internal clients;
    b. The pitching of company-owned assets and music services to internal, external, and third-party clients;
    c. The pitching of other products/services and platforms in coordination with other business units to external and third-party clients;
    d. Addressing customer needs by developing other allied or related services which may enjoy demand in the market
    e. Maintains a stable of composers and producers to service music services clients
    3. Oversees other aspects of asset management and music clearance, including:
    a. Acquiring synchronization and other licenses for the ABS-CBN group of companies;
    b. Maintaining digital copies of the music assets of the Company, and maintaining the metadata files for such assets (musical compositions and OSRs) in accordance with
    industry standards, including compliance with reporting requirements for various entities;
    c. Ensuring proper documentation, approval and safekeeping of all business contracts and distribution deals, and, in coordination with the IT Department, Big Dipper and other relevant units, preserving and maintaining copies of key and important contracts of AFPI.
    d. Assisting the company and its affiliates in negotiating licenses with various collective rights management organizations, of which AFPI is a member, such as, but not limited to FILSCAP, SOUNDSRIGHT, and PPRM.
    e. Represents ABS-CBN Music in industry meetings in the area of business, distribution, digital and technology.
    f. Assists the Legal Department in the drafting of contracts, including, but not limited to: recording contracts, music publishing contracts, music servicing and production agreements, distribution agreements, co-production agreements, and other agreements as may be agreed upon from time to time.
