Prior to the shutdown of its broadcast operations in 2020, ABS-CBN was the largest television network in the Philippines. As a radio broadcast company, it operated 22 radio stations including anchor radio stations in Mega Manila, DZMM and DWRR, in the AM and FM bands, respectively.
The company delivers television programming outside of the Philippines to over 3 million viewers in North America, the Middle East, Europe, Japan, Australia, Canada, and other countries in Asia, through the internet and the Company’s global distribution platform, TFC, using DTH satellite service, cable television channels, IPTV, mobile applications and video streaming services. Its offerings are further complemented by subsidiaries focused on other multimedia services such as film production, music recording, telecommunications, and magazine and book publishing.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Database Administrator is responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of a database. As a DBA, he will also be involved in the planning and development of the database, as well as troubleshooting any issues on behalf of the users.
The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of databases. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. This individual ensures that the databases, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values.
This individual will assist project teams with technical issues in the Initiation and Planning phases of our standard Project Management Methodology. These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research & development within the project life cycle; technical analysis and design; and support of operations staff in executing, testing and rolling-out the solutions. Participation on projects focused on smoothing the transition of projects from development staff to production staff by performing operations activities within the project life cycle.
DBA Engineering and Provisioning
- Engineering of DBA-related solutions for various project and operational needs.
- Install new, modify, drop, restore database in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
- Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
- Contribute to and maintain system standards.
- Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for database administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
Operations and Support
- Perform daily system monitoring, uptime, verifying the integrity and availability of all databases and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
- Monitor systems performance, ensure that databases are optimized and secured
- In-charge of administering the development (DEV), quality assurance (QAS), and sandbox (GEL) ensuring that they are up and running at all times.
- Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary.
- Create, change, and delete user accounts per request.
- Provide Level 2 - 3 support per request from various LOBs. Investigate and troubleshoot issues.
- Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.
Maintenance
- Apply DB patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.
- Upgrade and configure Enterprise system software and support for projects or operational needs.
- Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures.
- Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
- Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
- Manage all migration and application deployment.
REQUIREMENTS
- IT Course or Bachelor degree, with a technical major, such as engineering or computer science.
- Two to Six years system administration and DB experience.
- Familiar with the Databases in the Azure and AWS Cloud
- Familiarity with the following technologies:
- Windows, Linux, Unix Operating System
- Oracle DB, MSSQL, MYSQL
