Prior to the shutdown of its broadcast operations in 2020, ABS-CBN was the largest television network in the Philippines. As a radio broadcast company, it operated 22 radio stations including anchor radio stations in Mega Manila, DZMM and DWRR, in the AM and FM bands, respectively.
The company delivers television programming outside of the Philippines to over 3 million viewers in North America, the Middle East, Europe, Japan, Australia, Canada, and other countries in Asia, through the internet and the Company’s global distribution platform, TFC, using DTH satellite service, cable television channels, IPTV, mobile applications and video streaming services. RESPONSIBILITIES
The Halalan News Writer assists in the execution of the editorial agenda of ABS-CBN News for the 2025 midterm elections through its official website and accounts in other digital and social media platforms. He or she also helps ensure that the digital news team and its products faithfully represent the ABS-CBN News brand of ethical, world-class, and reliable journalism.
The Halalan News Writer will research and gather information, monitor and interview news sources, write, repurpose and package news content in the form of text, video and multimedia articles for publication as assigned by senior news editors.
- Searches, gathers, writes, edits and packages content for the Halalan 2025 microsite and other other digital platforms;
- Selects stories, advisories, video packages that may have been aired or otherwise on TV, for lining up in editor-approved hierarchy of stories, and recommended for publication;
- Repurposes, optimizes, and nominates edited content (text, video, etc.) for placement on social, mobile, and other News Digital platforms;
- Ensures articles are SEO compliant from headline to text body and embedded photos;
- Tags stories according to key subject matters, towards facilitating other ways to organize content;
- Adds links to related content within and outside the website, specific articles, news pieces, infographics, visuals, and all other digital materials that may require or need links for enhanced user experience;
- Ensures that all content published follow best practices in digital publishing by copy editing text and checking all facts before endorsing produced content to senior editors;
- Selects and pushes content to other platforms run by News Digital;
- Repurposes or ensures the repurposing for website, social, or mobile of video packages (already edited by production staff of TV) from TV Patrol, ANC, and other relevant platforms;
- Performs other tasks as may be assigned by immediate superior.
REQUIREMENTS
- A degree in journalism, communication, or related field
- At least 2 years of experience in journalism
- Strong skills in writing, research, and interviewing
- Knowledge and experience with multimedia (not only text, but also video and audio)
- Familiarity with online platforms, preferably has presence in all social media properties
- Ability to multitask and prioritize with little supervision under tight deadlines
