RESPONSIBILITIES

    POSITION SUMMARY
    The Monitoring and Desk Officer is responsible in providing the Integrated News Desk Timely and relevant information needed for the efficient and immediate breaking of news stories across all platforms, especially on digital. 

    The task also includes assisting the Desk Editors in their day to day functions.

    1. Monitors competition, online news sources, and social media, and integrates monitoring activities with other INCA units with similar functions
    2. Produces daily integrated monitoring report for the consumption of all platforms
    3. Serves as central station of news information that disseminates news stories across all platforms for a more efficient breaking of news and logging of stories
      1. Receives and verifies reports, story tips / leads coming from the Desk, Reporters, competition, social media, or the concerned public
      2. Answers calls, queries, and sometimes entertain walk-in complaints
      3. Consolidates all news information in the central repository software of INCA
    4. During breaking news events, collects basic details and other information from news sources by phone, social medial, or any other means and informs desk editors for posting the same in the Advisory Folder or additional tasking if necessary
    5. Maintains, organizes, and updates the Desk's contact list or directory of resource persons and subject matter experts as reference or resource for stories
    6. Assists the Desk in:
      1. Logging reporter activities, operations notes in the Desk Advisory Log "Tracking"
      2. Deployment and tracking if couriers;
      3. Getting contact details, background, and files of persons, news items,  public and current events, etc. for general use
    7. Inputs into the Futures Folder coverage advisories, invitations and other information on upcoming news events as may be advised by the Desk, Reporters, and news sources
    8. Posts press releases, statements and other similar documents in the Advisory Folder after clearing with or upon the advisory of the Desk
    9. Prepares requests for permit to cover, facilitates a live coverage or any other permits necessary for the coverage of a news events
    10. Performs other news desk activities as may be assigned from time to time
    11. Process requests for news content and materials for both internal and external clients
      1. Receives client requests, internal and external, for news materials and endorses to the Assignment Editor shift-head.
      2. Coordinates with Library, MMR, and assigned video editor for the production of the requested material.
      3. Informs the Assignment Editor shift-head when the material has been produced and successfully delivered to the client.
      4. Emails internal contacts for the accomplished transaction for documentation and billing purposes.

REQUIREMENTS

    • Graduate of Journalism / Mass Communication / any related field
    • Good editorial judgment
    • Keen interest in news and current events
    • Social media savvy
