ABS - CBN Career Talk Series: PUP Sta. Mesa and Malayan Colleges Laguna
The Corporate Recruitment Team has launched a series
of career talks with universities and colleges to help the graduating students
decide on which career path to take and prepare them for job interviews and
other work - related challenges. It was also an opportune time for the team to re-introduce
ABS - CBN as one of the country's leading corporations and as a top-of-mind
company that provides opportunities for career advancement. For the first quarter of 2016, the Corporate
Recruitment Team, together with TV Production, visited PUP Sta. Mesa and
Malayan Colleges - Laguna to speak with Mass Communication, AB English and
Engineering students regarding the rewards of working in the TV production
scene.
PUP Sta. Mesa
With the assistance of PUP's Career Development Placement
Office, an exclusive ABS - CBN career talk was held at the school's auditorium
last February 5. Mr. Mark Gile, Production Manager, and Ms. Jeng Faraon, HR
Head of TV Production, discussed with over a hundred Mass Communication and AB
English undergraduates and graduating students the perks and fulfillment of
working in TV production, as well as the current career opportunities in the
department. Mark shared how he started as a production assistant and worked his
way up the corporate ladder during his 16- year tenure with the company. He
also shared that his desire to improve his living condition and provide for his
family has kept him motivated to be at his best performance always. At the end
of the talk, Mark received several questions from students who were eager to
further understand the TV production business and responsibilities of a staff
member. The students also enjoyed the trivia contest regarding the company as winners
received ABS CBN freebies such as shirt, notebooks and notepads.
Malayan Colleges - Laguna
ABS-CBN was invited to conduct a career talk on March 17
with Malayan College's engineering students regarding the importance of self -
confidence and assertiveness in the work place. Mr. McCoy Tarnate,
Cinematographer and Lighting Director, and Mr. Eric Navarro, Technical
Director, began their presentation with an audio-visual presentation on the
history or ABS CBN. With reference to company history, McCoy emphasized that self
-assertion during difficult situations and confidence in making tough decisions
are key to thriving not just in the corporate world but, in our day to day
living too. He pointed out that former Chairman Emeritus, Mr. Geny Kapitan
Lopez Jr. was able to rebuild ABS - CBN after Martial Law because he asserted
his rights as a free person and fought for the re-acquisition of the company.
Kapitan also had faith and confidence in his leadership and in his people and,
that is how ABS CBN grew to become one of the most admired companies in the
country today. McCoy advised the graduating students that confidence in one'
skills will not only get the job done but, will also propel them into reaching
their professional and personal goals.
