VOLUNTEER EMPLOYEES SUPPORT LINGKOD KAPAMILYA AND DZMM KAPAMILYA DAY IN MANDALUYONG

Kapamilya employees from Mandaluyong volunteered their weekend to help Lingkod Kapamilya in the mounting of the DZMM Kapamilya Day at the Mandaluyong City Hall last February 24, 2018.

With hundreds of locals turning out at the venue to participate in the event which offered food, public services, and entertainment, ABS-CBN employee volunteers played a large role during the event—from manning the registration to assisting in the various activities.

As they were initially assigned to the registration booth, Elizabeth Abedoza (from TFC-ICONN) and David Salvan ( from INCA) were the first to greet Kapamilyas arriving at the venue with a host of concerns. But they also assisted attendees who availed of optical, medical, and even SSS services. Despite the large number of participants and the heat, the volunteers at the registration booth were always ready with a bright smile and kind words for the Kapamilyas in Mandaluyong.

Another volunteer, Angel Ann Olivadez (from SSC- Sky), was also originally assigned to the registration booth. But as is often the case with volunteer work, that changed very quickly. Olivadez was instead tasked to assist with an on-air segment called the Magpayo Booth, identifying and interviewing Mandaluyong Kapamilyas about their opinions regarding various social issues. With her job as a customer care operator, this responsibility came easily to Olivadez, who spent the event interviewing Kapamilyas on camera.

Despite the demands the event entailed, it turned out to a day of fun and fulfillment for ABS-CBN employee volunteers. For Mary Elizabeth Abedoza, the greatest takeaway from this volunteer experience was the “enjoyment of doing something for others.”  Abedoza feels that “it has been a pleasure and wonderful experience”, and valuable to her as an employee of ABS-CBN. In her view, the Employee Volunteer Program is constantly growing and improving by “giving a lot of chances to those people who is willing to give their time to help others.” -With much help from the volunteer employees, Lingkod Kapamilya and DZMM were able to assist over 800 Kapamilyas who visited the medical booth for consultation, plus about 100 more Kapamilyas who underwent tooth extraction, and 200 Kapamilyas who were issued free reading glasses.

The event also successfully served 65 Kapamilyas who availed of free services such as issuance of SSS number, verification of contribution, as well as screening and receiving of loans and benefits; 81 Kapamilyas who were able to apply for IDs and Member Data Records (MDRs), and update their records at the PhilHealth station; and over 20 Kapamilyas who consulted the PAO Mandaluyong District for legal advice.

Always the centerpiece for such an event the DZMM TLC truck saw 30 kids from Mandaluyong enjoy an exciting  story as told by Atty. Joey Lina, followed by an entertaining arts and crafts session. Throughout the event, the attendees were able to treat themselves to free haircuts, and massage therapy, while also enjoying free snacks and refreshments such as nachos and lemonade. To cap the event, the Operation Sagip truck distributed delicious hot soup, with which over 1,100 Kapamilyas were served.
