FILIPINOS IN CALGARY GET READY FOR ONE KAPAMILYA GO IN CANADA

Calgary is the largest city in Alberta which is the fourth largest province in Canada.  Nestled in the Foothills of Canada' Rocky Mountains, Calgary is well known for its beautiful parks, rivers, friendly western hospitality and culturally diverse and thriving metropolis.

In fact, it is a corporate power center where a high percentage of the workforce is employed in white collar jobs.  Between 2006 to 2011, data from the 2011 National Household Survey showed that Filipinos were the the largest single group of immigrants arriving in the Calgary area, making the community the third largest visible minority group in the city, next to South Asians and the Chinese.

Calgary has over 40,000 Filipinos, comprising 3.4 percent of the city' population, and just next to Toronto and Vancouver in terms of largest Filipino concentrations in Canada.  Alberta province has almost 89,000 Filipinos, next to Ontario and British Columbia.

ABS-CBN The Filipino Channel (TFC) acknowledges and celebrates the Filipinos who have made the City of Calgary and the Prairies of western Canada Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba their home away from home by bringing its biggest show in the country, One Kapamilya Go in Canada, to the iconic venue of Calgary Stampede Corral tomorrow, August 8, Saturday. Headlining the huge event are award-winning actress and comedienne Pokwang, internationally acclaimed singing star Jed Madela, the breakthrough Filipino young loveteam of the year, Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano, and the Fabulous Final Four of the hit show, Your Face Sounds Familiar: winner Melai Cantiveros, Jay-R, Edgar Allan Guzman and Nyoy Volante. Ticket holders get to enjoy activities for the whole family as early as 1pm while the main show starts at 6pm.

Filipinos in this region made the sacrifice of leaving the homeland, many even worked in the Middle East as contract workers, and then found their way here in Calgary where they have settled successfully, even when faced with challenges relating to the volatile oil market that drives the city' economy. With TFC' biggest show in the country being mounted here, we want to tell them that they need a break from all their hard work, that they should enjoy themselves and that they deserve to have fun the homegrown Filipino way… Pinoy style!  And nothing is more focused on giving them that live Kapamilya family fun experience than ABS-CBN TFC' events, said Ricky Resurreccion, ABS-CBN North America Head of Ad Sales, Trade Marketing & Events.

Filipinos in Calgary and in Alberta as a whole are among the most connected to the Philippines, said Olivia De Jesus, managing director of ABS-CBN North America. In the entire Canada, our remittance business is strongest in Alberta where we have the most number of agents because of demand.  These are people who consistently give back to their families at home.  One Kapamilya Go in Calgary is our way of thanking them and bringing a large vibrant piece of family and home to our kapamilya here.
